A Complex Engineering Puzzle
The primary challenge was designing an HVAC system capable of maintaining a cool and comfortable dining environment despite Karachi's high heat and humidity, while managing the intense heat load from the kitchen. It was also critical to design and get approval for a fire suppression and alarm system that met the stringent safety standards of the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) and Civil Defense for a high-traffic commercial eatery.
Innovative & Efficient
We implemented a high-efficiency VRF system with a capacity calculated to handle extreme ambient temperatures, ensuring consistent cooling in the dining area. A dedicated kitchen ventilation system, featuring stainless steel exhaust hoods and a fresh air handling unit (FAHU), was installed to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for the staff. For fire safety, we deployed an automated wet chemical suppression system for the kitchen cooking line, integrated with a comprehensive addressable fire alarm and sprinkler system throughout the facility.
