A Complex Engineering Puzzle
The key challenge was designing an HVAC system for a 'store of the future' concept. This involved integrating with a complex, digitally-heavy environment featuring numerous video walls and high-intensity lighting, which generate significant heat. The system needed to be highly responsive to rapid changes in customer density and powerful enough to maintain a crisp, cool atmosphere that aligns with a premium athletic brand, all while adhering to Nike's global sustainability and energy efficiency standards.
Innovative & Efficient
We implemented a hybrid solution combining a high-efficiency Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system for zoned comfort with a dedicated Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) to ensure a constant supply of fresh, pre-conditioned air. This combination provides exceptional indoor air quality and manages humidity effectively. The entire system is controlled by an intelligent Building Automation System (BAS) with occupancy sensors, allowing it to proactively adjust airflow and temperature based on real-time traffic in different zones, ensuring maximum efficiency and a consistently perfect in-store climate.
Key Project Outcomes
Maintained a precise and invigorating store climate, enhancing the premium customer experience and brand identity.
Achieved energy performance targets 15% above the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline, meeting Nike's global sustainability goals.
Effectively managed extreme heat loads from digital installations, ensuring equipment longevity and store uptime.
Provided a highly responsive system that automatically adapts to fluctuating customer loads, optimizing both comfort and energy use.

“Nike stores are more than just retail spaces; they are experiences. Their team delivered an HVAC solution that performs at the highest level, providing the comfort, air quality, and efficiency that our brand demands. The system is as innovative and responsive as the products we sell.”
