The Challenge

A Complex Engineering Puzzle

The primary challenge was protecting a massive, high-ceiling warehouse with complex, multi-level conveyor systems. A standard smoke detection system would be too slow and prone to false alarms from dust. The fire suppression system needed to be capable of rapidly extinguishing a fire in a high-fire-load environment (cardboard, plastics) without causing massive water damage that could destroy both packages and sensitive sorting machinery.

Our Solution

Innovative & Efficient

Our solution centered on a Very Early Warning Aspirating Smoke Detection (VESDA) system, which actively samples the air for microscopic smoke particles, providing the earliest possible warning of a potential fire. This was integrated with an addressable fire alarm system. For suppression, we implemented a double-interlock pre-action sprinkler system. This system requires two separate triggers (e.g., a smoke detector and a sprinkler head activation) before releasing water, preventing accidental discharge and minimizing potential damage while providing robust fire-fighting capability when needed.

Services Provided

  • Aspirating Smoke Detection (VESDA) System
  • Addressable Fire Alarm & Notification System
  • Double-Interlock Pre-Action Sprinkler System
  • Conveyor Belt & HVAC System Integration for Fire Events
  • Project Management for Critical Infrastructure

Results

Key Project Outcomes

Reduced fire detection time from minutes to seconds, allowing for immediate intervention and minimizing potential damage.

Eliminated the risk of catastrophic loss from accidental sprinkler discharge, protecting both assets and operations.

Achieved 100% compliance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 72 standards for warehousing and logistics facilities.

Ensured business continuity by designing a system that allows for targeted response without requiring a full facility shutdown.

In our business, uptime is everything. We cannot afford downtime or asset loss due to fire. Their team engineered a highly intelligent safety system that gives us the earliest possible warning and protects our facility from both fire and accidental water damage. It's a world-class solution for a world-class hub.
